Ortho Molecular Products Nutritional Supplements

How are Ortho Molecular Products different from what is found in retail stores?

1. All Ortho Molecular Products are evidence-based.

The most reliable evidence comes in the form of well-controlled human clinical trials, in patient populations that are demographically relevant, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. This is the standard for Ortho Molecular when ingredients are chosen to be included in formulas. However, they also honor the historical data of thousands of years of traditional use, as well as the direct observations of health care practitioners in clinical practice. Equally important as which ingredients to include is which forms of ingredients to choose. After all, there can be tremendous variation in two ingredients both called CoQ10.

Ortho Molecular has a standard of raw material quality seldom seen in the supplement industry, and it starts with asking the right questions. For example, when evaluating a raw material, most retail supplement companies’ first question is: How much does it cost? Instead, they should ask: Does the ingredient match the specifications used in clinical studies? Is it bioavailable? Has it been tested for safety? What is its country of origin? Was it manufactured in a controlled facility?

Simply stated, Ortho Molecular does not use inferior raw materials. Ever. Of course, even if you have chosen evidence-based ingredients and provided them in a superior form, the formula will not work if the dosages are too small. That’s why Ortho Molecular always includes the right therapeutic dosing of each ingredient, based on established research. This approach is what separates good supplements from great supplements — formulas that truly help patients get better faster.

2. Ortho Molecular Products takes the following additional steps to ensure the quality of its formulas.

  • Following rigid SOPs (standard operating procedures) and MOPs (methods of procedure) throughout every stage of production, leaving nothing to chance.

  • Testing all incoming raw materials in our state-of-the-art, in-house laboratory for identity (Is the material what it says it is?), purity (Does it contain any contaminants?), and composition (Does it match expected specifications?).

  • Mixing all raw materials in dedicated blending rooms using a custom-made 5,000-liter mixer following strict protocols to ensure product consistency.

  • Manufacturing every batch of product in dedicated tableting and encapsulating rooms, which are thoroughly cleaned and dried after each batch is made to protect against cross-contamination. It can take up to eight hours just to clean one room!

  • Performing thorough post-cleaning inspections to ensure the highest state of sanitation has been achieved.

  • Testing all finished products for identity (Does the formula contain the correct ingredients?), strength (Are the ingredients present in the potencies claimed?), and purity (Does the formula contain any contaminants?).

  • Subjecting every new formula to stability testing, which involves assaying ingredients to detect any degradation at 6-month intervals, thus ensuring the formula meets label claim at expiration.

3. Ortho Molecular Products are manufactured domestically in an FDA-audited facility.

These days, most dietary supplement companies are really sales and marketing firms. While they may formulate their own products, it is standard to outsource the manufacturing, laboratory testing, bottling, and labeling to a big contract manufacturer. The upside to this practice is that it’s convenient. The downside is that companies lose control to others that don’t share the same passion for the quality of the products.

Ortho Molecular is unique in that it operates its own 100,000-square-foot, cGMP, FDA-audited manufacturing facility that is based in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and staffed by highly trained personnel who share a passion for efficacy. Because Ortho Molecular controls the entire production process — from formulation…to raw materials sourcing…to manufacturing…to laboratory testing of incoming materials and finished product…to bottling and labeling — it is free to be perfectionistic.

Its manufacturing facility is strictly controlled by rigorous standards that meet cGMPs, and it routinely passes FDA and third-party audits. Extensive testing on every product it manufactures means you can trust the consistent purity, strength, identity, and composition of each and every Ortho Molecular formula. It’s rare for a supplement company to handle all phases of production, but when your standards are that high, you don’t want to entrust it to anyone else.

For all of these reasons, Dr. Nguyen suggests using a professional-grade line of nutraceuticals, like those from Ortho Molecular, to support patients who are deficient in important vitamins and minerals.
